What Happens Online in 60 Seconds

It’s no surprise how strongly Online In 60 Secondsthe Internet has invaded our daily lives – personal and professional. I, for one, am extremely active on multiple platforms at the same time and constantly available online thanks to my Samsung Galaxy S4. But, as it turns out, I am not alone with such an always-on addiction. Qmee and mycleveragency have found exactly what happens online in an average minute – you might be shocked!

Did you know that every 60 seconds there are:

  • 1.8 million likes and 41 thousand posts on Facebook;
  • 204 million emails;
  • 278 thousands tweets;
  • 72 hours of YouTube videos uploaded;
  • 20 thousand new Tumblr photos;
  • 3600 new Instagram photos;
  • 347 new blog posts?

What does this all mean?

First, it once again confirms that social media is not a fad.

Second, it shows how harder and harder it’s becoming for us to concentrate on just one thing or to keep someone’s attention and interest for long. The sheer of information and possibilities out there has given individuals so much choice making it extremely difficult for brands to first capture attention, but even more so to then keep it. Brand content must therefore not only be interesting, but personalised and engaging in such a manner that adds value so that people would willingly and on their own come back for more. That sure is a huge challenge for comms professionals.

What is it that you do in one minute? I challenge you to find out for yourself how much things you do online simultaneously in 60 seconds – would love to hear the outcome!

(While writing the last few sentences of this article, I checked my Facebook (where I found an interesting article about social media, which led me to an infographic on Pinterest I had to see) and Twitter (where I thanked for a retweet) as well as my email, a tab to which always stays open on my laptop, which then simultaneously notifies me for any activity on Google+ that I have to check. I also replied to a message from a friend on WhatsApp.)
