Blogging at iliyanastareva.com - a Year in Review

Written by Iliyana Stareva | 23-Dec-2012 08:22:00

2012 has been a fantastic year for my blog!

First of all it was the year I launched it and second, it was the year I learned so much about blogging, PR, social media, marketing, business etc. thanks to putting some great efforts into running this blog.

A lot has happened in my life in 2012 – from graduating at Plymouth University to starting my internship in a PR consultancy.

I believe I have managed to capture my experiences and what I’ve been learning in the areas of social media, marketing and PR in my writing (or at least I’ve tried, you’d be the judge :P). Researching and writing for this blog has certainly helped me enhance my knowledge in the communications and business practice.

Briefly, here are some of the blog’s highlights of the year:

The most read blog post turned out to be my first one! It explained why I want to work in PR. According to my Google Analytics, a lot of people google ‘why work in PR’ and are brought to my post from their search results. I guess I should write an edition of this blog post every year!

The post that discussed my dissertation findings about social media’s impact on PR was the most shared and commented article. I think the use of an infograhic to summarise the results proved to be very effective. Also, the blog post with my interview with Heather Yaxley for the dissertation turned out to be quite popular. I will make sure that I publish a few more interviews in the New Year.

Seems readers have also been interested in the history of as well as developments in PR and social media, so I might think of including a little bit more on these subjects, especially some more PR theory.

Finally, blogging about creative campaigns, for example Topshop’s Christmas mystery or Volkswagen’s BlueMotion Label campaign, seems to go really well. I’ve already got another great stunt in my content schedule and I promise to keep an eye for impressive campaigns so that I can share them with you.

What was the biggest blogging challenge this year?

Finding time! Coming up with content ideas hasn’t been an issue, nor has been finding inspiration either. But with the university and the lectures, the dissertation, the jobs etc., it’s been difficult to find time to do research, write, edit and publish posts.

Sometimes, one article can take up hours, and many don’t consider that these hours are part of my free time that I spend writing instead of relaxing or meeting with friends. I chose to dedicate time to my blog because I believe it’s an essential part of my career path, which is why one of my New Year’s resolutions is to find time to blog more often.

In 2013 I will make sure to share with you my professional and personal experiences and knowledge as well as my international challenges – I’ll be yet again moving to another country (Germany) in February 2013, but by the end of next year I hope to come back to England – exciting times indeed!

I have a feeling, 2013 will be even more fantastic than 2012!
